Axiros’ Insights on Broadband Forum Release of TR-181 Data Model 2.19

Key Updates in TR-181 Data Model 2.19:

  • Enhanced Firewall Configuration: A revised appendix now provides expanded firewall logging capabilities and an improved filter configuration

  • Updated 3GPP NAS Coverage: The previous 5G theory of operation section has been replaced with a comprehensive "3GPP NAS" chapter, covering various aspects of 3G, 4G, and 5G networks

Major Data Model Enhancements:

  • Cellular Network Support: Enhanced short message configuration and management

  • Unified Cellular Configuration & Session Management: Streamlined support for 3G, 4G, and 5G networks under a common framework

  • Extended CWMP Support: Previously USP-only Device.CollectionDevice support is now available for CWMP

  • Improved Logging & Diagnostics:

    • Kernel and process fault logging now support log rotation

    • DHCPv4/v6 configurations offer expanded options and improved service statistics

    • Firewall configuration now includes network event logging

    • IPLayerCapacity diagnostics updated in alignment with the TR-471i4 specification

  • New Hardware & Network Protocol Support:

    • Added support for SFP cages and modules, enhancing optical network interfaces

    • Introduced compatibility with the 802.15.4 Thread protocol, a key component for Matter smart home integration and the upcoming TR-517 specification

    • Expanded support for trusted elements, including all types of mobile SIM cards

    • Introduced support for Wi-Fi Data Elements Release 4

  • Energy & Security Enhancements:

    • Preliminary power monitoring data model to track energy consumption and compliance

    • Enhanced permission system for USP services

    • Support for TLS certificate authority bundles
