Success Story: FairNetz GmbH Achieves Seamless, Cost-Effective Connectivity with Axiros Solutions

FairNetz GmbH develops, builds, and operates modern supply networks for energy, water, and telecommunications. As a provider of innovative products and technical services, FairNetz has ensured a safe and reliable energy supply since the 19th century, currently serving 13 communities around Reutlingen as an electricity network operator and 23 communities as a gas network operator. Since the 2000s, FairNetz has expanded its communication networks with modern fiber-optic infrastructure, ensuring state-of-the-art connectivity. Building on this foundation, FairNetz is offering high-quality internet, telephone, and television services as well as tailored telecommunications solutions for diverse customer needs. By operating a state-of-the-art GPON-FttH network powered by Nokia technology since 2012, FairNetz positions itself as a technological leader in the region.

With a highly efficient technical team and the aim of delivering high-speed internet to the entire area of Reutlingen and surrounding municipalities, FairNetz made a forward-thinking decision to prioritize full automation from the very beginning. By implementing cutting-edge software solutions from Axiros and dimari, FairNetz sets new standards in efficiency and customer service.

Various models of the AVM Fritzbox with integrated fiber optic connection are used as customer terminals, whereby customers can also continue to use their existing end devices behind an inexpensive fiber optic modem. This reduces the costs per connection, provided that FairNetz is also able to manage these devices centrally and configure them fully automatically.

Ambitious Goals with Low Staffing Levels: Automation with Axiros Instead of Manual Processes
To achieve this reliably, FairNetz has opted for the combination of DHCP and Auto Configuration Server (AXESS ACS) from Axiros. Both systems are seamlessly integrated so that FairNetz does not have to worry about technical details. Axiros supplies the solution, including appropriate advice, completely from a single source to identify any customer devices based on the network port and then put them into operation fully automatically.

DHCP as the Key to Zero Effort with Zero Touch
In addition to pure IP address management, i.e. the comparatively simple assignment of dynamic and static IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, it automatically recognizes devices from different manufacturers and distributes other configurations such as the URL of the management server to the devices in addition to the IP addresses. For example, devices from AVM, TP-Link, or Zyxel come directly to the ACS with the DHCP Option43, while other devices require a BOOTFILE.

This has the advantage that the customer devices do not have to be pre-configured with a lot of effort but find their way to the management server independently via the DHCP request. There they are then assigned to the customer fully automatically using further data from the DHCP server and configured according to the product specifications from the dimari VarioCRM.

Continued Use of Existing Infrastructures alongside the FttH Expansion Saves Time and Money
As stated before, FairNetz is committed to providing tailored solutions for every customer. For those where a FTTH solutions currently isn’t feasible, FairNetz offers an effective alternative by utilizing existing CATV Cabeling.

Their advanced approach integrates CATV cables with two virtual servers for a virtual CMTS and a DOCSIS extension, implemented seamlessly by Axiros. This solution maximizes efficiency and minimizes costs while maintaining high-quality connectivity.

With AVM's technology, cable terminals are commissioned without manual intervention. The DHCP system establishes a solid foundation, and the management server manages all the details, ensuring a smooth and reliable experience.

FairNetz stands out for its innovative and flexible solutions, ensuring that connectivity needs are met today and in the future.

Axiros AXESS ACS is an Essential Tool in the Customer Relationship
Even after commissioning, the Management Server remains a central tool for FairNetz. Faults are quickly diagnosed with the integrated support portal and rectified at the touch of a button, and firmware updates are automatically rolled out at night. For example, the WLAN or DHCP server can be configured directly from the portal, regardless of the end device model or manufacturer. The introduction of AXWIFI as a complementary solution from Axiros is planned to better help customers with WLAN problems in the future.
